New discovery cruise: 5 days full board, out and back from Morondava, exploring Belo sur Mer, its shipyards, its salt pans and the white sand islets bordering the Kirindy-Mite national park. Departures from December.
Detailed Itinerary
Morondava - Belo sur Mer - Departure from the Nofy Be Club House pontoon at Nosy Kely. Settling in aboard and briefing, lunch under way along the baobab coast. Late afternoon arrival in Belo sur Mer bay, anchoring off the village and dinner aboard.
Belo sur Mer - Shipyards and salt pans - A full day at Belo sur Mer. Visit the shipyards where schooners and dhows are still built by hand using ancestral methods. In the afternoon, walk out to the salt pans and the bottle baobab forest. Evening meal in the village.
Kirindy-Mite dunes - Morning sail to the Mite dune. Climb the dune for a breathtaking view: the ocean on one side, the inland lakes and baobabs of the Kirindy-Mite national park on the other. Swimming and lunch aboard, then on to the islets. Barbecue on the beach.
Islets and sandbanks - A day devoted to the islets off Belo. Snorkeling over the coral heads, paddle-boarding, walks on the sandbanks uncovered at low tide. Meeting the Vezo fishermen who settle seasonally on the islands. Last evening at anchor.
Back to Morondava - Morning swim, then a final sail north pushed by the westerly winds. Lunch aboard and early afternoon arrival at the Nofy Be Club House pontoon in Morondava.
