Marine Wildlife of Madagascar
The Mozambique Channel and Madagascar's west coast harbour extraordinary marine biodiversity. Our cruises aboard the Nofy Be offer unique encounters with ocean giants in their natural habitat.
Humpback whales
Every year from August to October, humpback whales migrate from Antarctica to Madagascar's warm waters to give birth and breed. From the deck of the Nofy Be, watch their spectacular breaches, tail flukes, and enchanting songs. The Mozambique Channel is one of the world's best locations for whale watching.
Season: August to October
Whale sharks
The world's largest fish frequent the waters around Nosy Be from mid-September to mid-December. These 5 to 12-metre giants feed on plankton near the surface, offering unforgettable snorkeling encounters in crystal-clear waters.
Season: mid-September to mid-December
Dolphins and cetaceans
Spinner dolphins and bottlenose dolphins regularly accompany the Nofy Be during her voyages. Offshore, it's not uncommon to encounter sperm whales, Risso's dolphins, or Bryde's whales.
Sea turtles
Green turtles and hawksbill turtles frequent the reefs and beaches of the west coast. During dives and snorkeling sessions, watch them graze on seagrass beds or rest beneath the corals.
