Migratory cruise: 8 days of exceptional navigation along Madagascar's wild west coast, discovering the Barren Islands and Baly Bay National Park, unique habitat of the endemic Angonoka tortoise.

Detailed Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Departure from Morondava - Departure from the pontoon at Club House Nofy Be at high tide for first long navigation of 105 nautical miles (approximately 24h) to the Barren Islands.

  • Day 2

    Barren Islands - Nosy Mangily - Discovery of these islands seasonally inhabited by nomadic Vezo who migrate here for fishing. Meeting with this population, learning their way of life. Superb snorkeling and possibility of spearfishing. Abundant fishing on the menu.

  • Day 3

    Nosy Andrano / Nosy Dondosy - Morning departure to these islets for snorkeling, swimming and walking. Discovery of a former guano extraction mine. Overnight anchorage in this preserved setting.

  • Day 4

    Nosy Anabohazo - Nosy Maroantaly - Morning navigation of 1h30 to 2h to this beautiful island. Snorkeling and walk discovering sea turtle nesting sites. Approaching Maintirano.

  • Day 5

    Maintirano - Nosy Vao - Kingalahy - Conditional stop at Maintirano for fruit and vegetable supplies if tide and sea conditions permit. Beginning of long navigation of about twenty hours.

  • Day 6

    Cape Saint-André - Vilamatsa - Arrival at Vilamatsa, village east of the cape closest to Africa. Walk on endless white sand beach with wrecked container carcasses to the lighthouse. Breathtaking view of the meeting of turquoise northern waters and red southern waters.

  • Day 7

    Baly Bay - Soalala - If winds permit, enter the bay and descent to Soalala. Visit to Baly Bay National Park, unique habitat of the endemic Angonoka tortoise (Astrochelys yniphora), threatened species classified as "rare". Also observation of freshwater turtles and dugongs. Navigation to Nosy Makamby.

  • Day 8

    Nosy Makamby - Majunga - Arrival at Nosy Makamby, swimming and walk on this stunning island. Final sailing to the destination: Majunga.
