Detailed Itinerary
- Day 1
Majunga - Nosy Makamby - Morning departure for 25 nautical miles (5 to 8h navigation), lunch aboard. Arrival at Nosy Makamby between 1pm and 4pm, swimming and island discovery. 7pm departure for overnight navigation to Soalala (35 miles).
- Day 2
Soalala Bay - Baly Bay National Park - Dawn arrival at Soalala, village visit and park access formalities. Discovery of endemic Angonoka turtle's unique habitat, rare freshwater turtles and dugongs. Afternoon departure to Cap Saint-André (60 miles, 12 to 20h).
- Day 3
Cap Saint-André - Vilamatsa - Noon arrival at Vilamatsa, village visit. Walk on endless white sand beach with stranded container carcasses to lighthouse. Breathtaking view of turquoise northern and red southern waters meeting.
- Day 4
Besalampy - Maningosa River - 2am departure (35 miles, 7 to 12h). Entry into Maningosa river estuary to ascend 25km into this stunning red river. Arrival at Besalampy, small landlocked town with bright colors, accessible only by sea. Evening in lively bars, night aboard or at Bellevue hotel.
- Day 5
Free day in Besalampy - Free day ashore in this isolated town, local life discovery. Late afternoon departure as soon as tide permits.
- Day 6
Maningosa River - Sarondrano/Kingalahy - Red river descent with observation of this isolated Madagascar part. In river: crocodiles, fishermen and scenes from another time. Navigation to Sarondrano or Kingalahy.
- Day 7
Kingalahy - Nosy Vao - Maintirano - Very early departure for navigation to Maintirano (65 to 80 miles). Pause in this port town for visit and fruit/vegetable provisioning before tackling Barren islands.
- Day 8
Maintirano - Barren Islands - Departure according to tides to Nosy Maroantaly, first of Barren islands. Snorkeling around island, visit to Vezo fishermen camps and overnight anchorage.
- Day 9
Nosy Anabohazo - Nosy Dondosy - Morning departure to Nosy Anabohazo (Androtra), snorkeling and walk discovering sea turtle nesting sites. Navigation to Nosy Dondosy for night anchorage.
- Day 10
Nosy Andrano/Nosy Mangily - Morondava - Discovery of these islands seasonally inhabited by nomadic Vezo. Learning their lifestyle, superb snorkeling, spearfishing possibility. Navigation to Sohany or Cap Kimby then final navigation to Morondava, next morning arrival.
