Visa & entry requirements

A visa is required to enter Madagascar, regardless of your nationality.

A tourist visa can be obtained on arrival at the airport (Nosy Be or Antananarivo). Duration: 30, 60 or 90 days depending on the fee chosen.

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned return date, with at least 2 blank pages.

Visa on arrival fees: approximately €35 (30 days), €40 (60 days) or €55 (90 days). Payable in euros or US dollars.

Tip: Bring bills in good condition and the exact amount. Bank cards are not accepted for visa payment.

Health & vaccinations

No vaccinations are mandatory for Madagascar (except yellow fever if coming from an endemic country). Hepatitis A vaccination and up-to-date tetanus/diphtheria/polio are recommended. Anti-malaria treatment is strongly advised.

Travel insurance with repatriation cover is essential. Medical facilities in Madagascar are limited.

Currency & payment

The local currency is the Ariary (MGA). Euros are widely accepted in tourist areas. Bring cash: ATMs are scarce outside major cities. Payments aboard the Nofy Be are in euros (bank transfer or cash).
